It’s strange spending a whole day in near complete silence. You’re forced to think a lot when you’re alone.

Ok. So. Here’s what’s up. We’re finally feeling normal here in Virginia. I know the area now and we’ve been getting around. So far this weekend we’ve spent a day in Richmond checking out the freaking most awesome district called Carytown. It kind of reminds me of Hillcrest. That night we went up to Washington DC to see Next to Normal, which was awesome. The next day we went to Busch Gardens to get our amusement park fix. It’s definitely no comparison to Disneyland but it was still really fun. We haven’t been on crazy rollercoasters in a long time and it was definitely a blast.
On Sunday we took the 1.5 hour trip to Virginia beach to go to a real mall, ours sucks. We both kinda have clothes now!
Today is 4th of July. Not sure what we’re going to do. We’re pretty beat from the weekend so we might just relax before I have to go back to work tomorrow morning.
Anyway, we’re doing well if you’re interested! Emily only has 6 more weeks here and they’re gonna go by really fast.
Keep in touch everyone. We haven’t really been doing a good job of that but the phone works both ways!

So Week Two at Fort Lee is done. All I can say is, DEATH BY POWERPOINT. Holy shit, I don’t think I have ever seen more powerpoints. Here is a typical day in the life of a Transportation Lieutenant at the Illustrious Army Logistics University: Wake up 4:45 am, get to PT by 5:30. Do some week ass PT for about an hour (PRT, anyone?), go home, shower and eat breakfast, get back to class around 8:15 am, watch a powerpoint for 3 hours, go home (if you’re lucky) and eat lunch with, get back to class by 12:45 PM, powerpoint til 4:30 PM, home, dinner, sleep by 9 PM. Soooo, that’s about what I do all day.
Today we did out little initiation team-building exercise. Which was basically just a bunch of bullcrap that was supposed to smoke us while stressing us out and making us work as a team. Basically all it did to me was chafe the eff out of the inside of my thighs after we jumped in the water and rucked back to the beginning. Mind you, each mile we had a strenuous event and the whole time we were carrying a bunch of stuff, including the tire to a 5 ton truck. So that was fun.
Emily is still just hanging around the apartment all day while I’m at work. There isn’t much she can do without a car. But tomorrow we’re going to go look at the humane society and dog pound to see if we can get her a companion.
Next week we have a four day pass for the weekend. We WERE going to go home to SD, but the plane ticket prices are just too high for that weekend; so we’ll have to wait. INSTEAD, we are going to go to Washington D.C. and see Next to Normal and Wicked! Both of which I have never seen before.
More to come, sorry we don’t update much during the weekdays, but there really isn’t anything to say. It’s all about the weekends.
Keep in touch everybody, and remember that we’re 3 hours ahead and I go to bed at like 9 PM our time!
So we really haven’t been keeping up with this thing! Sorry! The first week has been a reall busy week for me (Cody) with all the in-processing and probably the exact opposite for Em. I’ve been out the door by 3:30 AM and home around 5 PM. Crazy. But this weekend we’ve been getting out to Petersburg and the surrounding communities. We’ve gone to our new favorite restaurant, Wabi Sabi Sushi, twice in two nights; and we got a chance to get out to the local movie theater and see Hangover II, which was hilarious.
Petersburg is interesting. It has it’s moments with a reall awesome semi-colonial Old Town with SOME cool shops and a few restaurants and bars. Literally like 4. The main streets are full of closed down shops and sometimes it reminds me of Silent Hills, sooooo yeah.
Today we’re heading about two hours east to the coast to check out some of the more representative communities of Virginia. We’re going to go check out the Ice Rink and hockey store in Chesapeake, VA and then we’re probably going to go to Virginia Beach so Em can see the Atlantic Ocean!
We’ll keep up with this more! Hopefully em will be posting on here with her extra time so she doesn’t go crazy with boredom.
Hey everyone. We made it to Petersburg last night, I checked into the Army Logistics University this morning, and now we’re chillin on my friend’s couch watching Harold and Kumar. We move into our new apartment on tuesday! We’ll update with pics!
